ENERGETICS

01

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS OF ENERGY INDUSTRY.

The energetics is a strategic sector for the security of Iraqi Kurdistan Region and a dynamic economic development of the region. Since the new constitution of Iraq (2005) sanctioned the existence of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the authorities of the autonomy have been aware of the importance of this market sector and have put an effort in its dynamic development.

The energy sector in the Kurdistan Region is facing ambitious challenges. Firstly, there is a need to increase the annual production of electricity in order to meet the ever growing needs. It is estimated that over the next five years the growth rate of electricity production be around 30% year on year. The modernization of old transmission networks and construction of new ones constitute another challenges for the industry.

The perspectives presented above generate a demand for companies operating in the energy sector. There is nothing preventing Polish companies totake an active part in building the energy sector in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and in the longer term in southern Iraq.

OIL & GAS

02

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS OF THE INDUSTRIES RELATED TO THE EXPLOITATION CRUDE PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS.

Moreover, the autonomy of the Kurdistan Region has the right to the total revenues from the export of crude oil and natural gas obtained from the deposits (located in the their area), whose exploitation began after 2006, or which were discovered after 2006. In accordance with the new Iraqi constitution (2005) the Kurdistan Region receives annually 17% of revenues from Iraqi oil export, which in turn is the basis for the South Kurdistan’s budget. Market sectors associated with the exploration of crude oil and gas are essential to Iraq as the amount obtained from their export is the basic element of the state budget’s revenues.

The current challenge for the government of the Kurdistan Region is to export crude oil and natural gas to the world markets through a terminal on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. It is a task of a political nature (due to the need for negotiations with Baghdad government) as well as technical (current capacity – about 300 thousand barrels a day, in perspective may rise to 2 million barrels a day and at least 10 billion m3 of gas a year).

The perspectives presented above generate a demand for companies operating in industries related to oil and natural gas. There is nothing preventing Polish companies totake an active part in building the energy sector in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and in the longer term in southern Iraq.

CONSTRUCTION

03

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS OF THE CONSTRUCTION AND RELATEDINDUSTRIES.

The widely understood construction industry is a market sector, which is responsible for creating the space surrounding us. It is worth realizing that 80% of buildings in Dahuk (0.5 million inhabitants), Sulaymaniyah (1,894 million inhabitants) and Irbil (1,134 million inhabitants) was found after 2006, which is in the past eight years.

Kurdish Regional government wants to maintain a high level of dynamic development of the construction industry and is open to investments in the following areas:

It is worth noting that the construction industry also generates demand for all materials and equipment, ranging from the basic such as cement and steel, through the installation, electrical and finishing materials and equipment, and finishing on the furniture.

EDUCATION

04

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS OF THE EDUCATION INDUSTRY

Kurdish Regional Government is aware that maintaining the dynamics of autonomy will depend on the skill to independently build the key sectors of the economy such as energy, exploitation of crude oil and natural gas, construction, medicine or agriculture and processing of agricultural products. It is clear that since 2005, when the region gained autonomy, there have been not enough staff workers educated who could meet the challenges posed by the Kurdish authorities. This situation necessitates a development of the education sector, particularly in the field of higher education.

One form of raising the level of public education within the Kurdish societyis the financial assistance from the government for those wishing to study outside of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. This is a chance for Polish Universities to attract new undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students.

Universities that are interested in cooperation will be given detailed information during the meeting. Please fill out the contact form (enabling better preparation to the meeting) or call us.

MEDICINE

05

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS OF THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY

Since Iraqi Kurdistan Region has gained full autonomy in 2005, providing the public with a full access to health services became a priority for the authorities of the region. This ambitious program, though difficult, generates a number of basic and related tasks, creating many business opportunities. For basic tasks include:

Individuals (doctors, nurses, specialists) and companies that are interested in cooperation, we will give detailed information during the meeting. Please fill out the contact form (in order to better prepare the meeting) or contact us.

OTHER

06

OTHER POSSIBILITIES

Since Iraqi Kurdistan Region has gained full autonomy in 2005, the government began building of a new economic system. The financing of this system is based on the income derived from the exploitation of crude oil and natural gas. It should be realized that the concept of a “new economic system” means building the region’s economy virtually “from scratch”. This situation creates many exciting business opportunities and in some ways it is analogous to the situation that took place in Poland after the economic breakthrough in 1989.
